Working volumes go down to 3 mL in the 16 mL vessel, or 2 mL on the ChemSCAN+, depending on your chemistry and impellor choice. Speak to a specialist to confirm the lowest volume for your application.

Two rows go the other way. The Endeavor feeds each vessel individually, where the ChemSCAN uses a shared manifold with independent pressure measurement and control in every reactor — independent feeding and venting per reactor is available on the ChemSCAN+. And both reach 200 °C.

What you gain

From 7 mL to 400 mL

Endeavor tops out at 7 mL. The ChemSCAN runs 2 – 400 mL on one platform, so conditions found at screening scale are confirmed at working scale without changing instrument.

40 bar becomes 200 bar

Endeavor’s relief valve releases at 40 bar. The ChemSCAN runs to 100 bar as standard and 200 bar as an option — where much hydrogenation and carbonylation chemistry actually sits.

Sampling during the run

Endeavor has no sampling — you infer progress from gas uptake, or quench reactors at staggered times to imitate a time course. ChemSCAN vessels take a sampling port, so one experiment gives a real profile.

Cooling, not just heating

Endeavor has no active cooling; 200 °C to ambient is a couple of hours of passive decay. ChemSCAN reaches −40 °C with a circulator and controls the descent.

Hastelloy, not sole-source glass

ChemSCAN uses SS316 or Hastelloy C276 vessels rated to 200 bar and 350 °C — so corrosive and halide chemistry is in scope, and the consumable is not tied to one supplier.

Biotage Endeavor: frequently asked questions

Is the Biotage Endeavor discontinued?
Yes. The Biotage® Endeavor™ Catalyst Screening System is no longer sold as a new instrument. Existing units continue to run, but spares, service and the glass liners are worth confirming with Biotage before you plan around the platform long term.
What replaces the Biotage Endeavor?
The H.E.L ChemSCAN — a bench-top automated parallel reactor platform with real-time gas-uptake measurement, available in 4- and 8-reactor designs. It keeps the parallel screening workflow an Endeavor user already knows, and removes the 7 mL and 40 bar ceilings.
What is the maximum pressure of the Biotage Endeavor?
40 bar (600 psi). Biotage’s documentation states the pressure relief valve releases above 600 psi, and that supply gases should not exceed that figure. ChemSCAN runs to 100 bar as standard and 200 bar as an option.
What working volume does the Biotage Endeavor handle?
1 – 7 mL with the anchor impeller, or 1 – 5 mL with the blade type, depending on impeller and solvent viscosity. ChemSCAN covers 2 – 400 mL across vessels from 16 mL to 500 mL, so screening and scale-up happen on one platform.
How many reactors does the Biotage Endeavor have?
Eight, each physically separate with its own thermocouple, heater, pressure transducer and gas valve, and you only program the reactors you want to run. ChemSCAN offers 4- or 8-zone configurations with the same independence.
Can you take samples during a reaction on the Endeavor?
No. Biotage’s FAQ states there is no sampling — you monitor gas consumption to tell whether the reaction is working, or set reactors up identically and quench them at different times to imitate a time course. ChemSCAN vessels take a sampling port, so a single run gives a real profile.
