Versatile Approaches to Battery Hazard Quantification
Organised by

The GEFTA Annual Conference 2026 — the yearly meeting of the Gesellschaft für Thermische Analyse — takes its theme this year from energy storage: Thermal Analysis and Safety of Energy Storage. Thermal runaway, calorimetry, thermal methods and standardisation are the central topics, covering active materials, cell components and complete systems. It is hosted by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt in Braunschweig and organised jointly with the Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung.

That is the ground H.E.L works on. Jasbir’s talk covers both halves of it: adiabatic calorimetry for safety testing — how cell components, cells, modules and packs respond to mechanical, electrical and thermal stress, under worst-case conditions and with analysis of evolving gases — and isothermal calorimetry for performance, measuring heat generation with integrated charge–discharge units for automated cycling. He works through both with real test data and photographs, including where a calorimeter that fits a conventional fume hood is enough and where a larger custom installation is needed. The same principles run through our process safety calorimeters for reactive chemistry.

The full programme and registration details are on the GEFTA 2026 conference site, where Jasbir’s abstract is also published.
